some basic water color type brushes will work.  You'll want some of the smaller sized rounds with the biggest being a quarter to half inch wide flat.  mostly depends on your preferences.  don't go for the more expensive brushes till you know if you like it or not.  you can get away with 3 brushes to get you started, think detail brush (thin but with longer bristles), medium size for filling in smaller spaces & the flat for filling in the larger areas on a scroll.
for paints a Gouche set will work just fine.  you can get a little set of basic colors for under $10.
it's an opaque watercolor.  usually over with the tubes of watercolor on one of the shelves.  some of the employees there are stupid high schoolers so if they look at you funny just hunt over by the tubes of paint.
The one over by 71&169 almost always has the cheap set.
