OOOO, let me answer this one since I work for Tulsa County Parks and am the one that reserved the shelter......

Yes several of our parks are still trying to clean up from the ice storm. Yes parts of our parks are still blocked off....including parts of Haikey Creek. You know how the government is....slow....and the federal government is paying for the clean up....so it is really SLOW!!! Plus parks & recreation areas were the last on the list for federal money....so we had to wait!!

Shelter #5 which is the shelter I have reserved for us is out by itself (the public WILL still be able to see us from other shelters however). It has it's own parking lot and a shelter. It also has a few port-o-pots out there (since we are all used to having to use them I figured it wasn't a really big deal to have them there). It has extra land for us to put up nothing bigger than 10x10s and there is room for fighting (heavy & light). There is a grill there, we might need to bring a few more depending on the amount of people showing up. I will also get us a water key so that we will have water there at the shelter.

If there is any further questions/concerns about the park itself please let me know. If I can't answer it I know that man in charge of the park ... I even have his cell number. ;-)

YIS,
Ciana

On Zahava's note, has anyone been out to Haikey Creek in the last week or two to check out the shelter and the park situation. Alarich and I tried to go out there in early June for a walk-about and found large parts of the park with huge signs saying "Closed due to ice storm damage". Driving through on Garnett, a lot of it still looked pretty rough.
