Five hundred years ago today, Henry VIII by the grace of God King of England, France, and Ireland, succeeded his father.  His reign was one of the most fascinating periods of history I've ever studied, and one of those I'd least have liked to have lived through.  It was definitely an era under the Chinese curse: May you live in interesting times.
