I'm aware of all that. The statement I was replying to said "I look at his  
picture and wonder..." and went on to speculate his 'ladies' needed 
chemical  bolstering to participate. I suggested that he may have once been more  
attractive than his late-in-life portraits indicate, and counter-snarked that 
his 'competition' in France might not have been the manliest of men -- and 
I  really expected Facon or JP to object to -that- rude jest...
No doubt his well-earned reputation, for intellect, wittiness, and, ah,  
flexibility also helped. But mentioning that would have watered down the  dig.

Lothario.  There was no competition.  Once he got to the French  court, the
