I'm aware of all that. The statement I was replying to said "I look at his
picture and wonder..." and went on to speculate his 'ladies' needed
chemical bolstering to participate. I suggested that he may have once been 
more
attractive than his late-in-life portraits indicate, and counter-snarked 
that
his 'competition' in France might not have been the manliest of men -- and
I really expected Facon or JP to object to -that- rude jest...
No doubt his well-earned reputation, for intellect, wittiness, and, ah,
flexibility also helped. But mentioning that would have watered down the 
dig.
