They might have been using the wrong size needle for what they were working
on. Needles are sized for the fabric you are sewing and it makes a big
difference. If you were stitching a cotton wash cloth with the same needle
he was using on harness webbing, that could very well be the issue.

greetings

okies i was just sent home with a husqvarna viking c-20 sewing machine.
to be honest i havent touched a sewing machine in over 30 years....
needless to say they have changed a bit : /

the person it belongs to was trying to sew heavy nylon ( like for safety
belts, rappeling harness etc. )
he said it would do like 4 stiches and then the lower thread would tangle
and stop the machine.
but when i brought it home wiped the dust off, and threaded a spool of
thread , it had no problem stiching a cotton washcloth .

so ... my questions are... 1: could the use of a round needle be a problem
on heavier material / leather ??
2: could this be a tension problem ??
3: should i just give up and take it to a professional ??

thanx in advance
