Good idea, and unfortunately, as of now, there IS a burn ban!

Don't know if this will work for your lanterns, but when my lord and I have a party and use our lanterns, we use one of the cheap dollar flashlights (they're really small) suspended inside the lanterns from the top.  The batteries have lasted for several evenings, so I would think they would last for a few hours during the party.  Not quite as romantic as candlelight, but safer and legal even if there is a fire ban.
