greetings 

just wanted to say thank you to everyone who gave tips / ideas on locating a cheap water heater , both used and new .
after much much gnawing on those bones , i finaly chose to go into debt and get a new water heater, both due to the guestimated longer life span of a new unit, as well as the safety aspect .

if anyone else is looking in the near future, at this time sears was the cheapest place to buy new. @  360 something after taxes for a 40 gallon gas water heater .
