"Voidable Charge. A charge which can be voided; that is, having the middle cut out, allowing the field or other tincture to show
through. The cutout portion should both be of the same shape as the charge and follow along the outline of the charge. In general, a

So it's a silver (or white) background.  My mistake.  I was under the impression that badges were fieldless for some reason (probably lack of sleep...)
