Yesterday, two weeks after her surgery, they took the tracheal vent out. They said there was a 30-40% chance they'd have to put it back, but as of 9:30 last night they were no longer talking in those terms and nobody has called me. She was still unable to speak over a faint raspy whisper, and was still feeling the influence of the drugs they had her on, physically and mentally, but she was talking, answering questions, and had feeling in her hands and feet. She also has a DVT in her right arm where they put a PIC line, but her surgeon said those weren't nearly as dangerous in the upper extremities as in the lower. He said I shouldn't be TOO worried. They have her on Heparin to dissolve it.
All in all, a lot more good news than bad.
