PE - Guy rope attachment - by date.

Hi All,

Having done a quick survey of my collection I have come up with the 
following results and conclusions.

1) Guy rope attachment was on the most part too finer detail to be 
included.

2) During the Medieval period (Europe) most "roof edge" guy ropes (when shown) 
join the tent up under the valance.

3) Only one German wood cut shows any indication of a grommet.

>From the listing;

113 A.D. Trajan's Column, rings from roof edge.
12th-13thc. John Skylite's Chronicle, dark patches at attachment 
point.
13thc. Cantigas de Santa Maria, dark patches at attachment 
point.
1312 - 1317 A.D. Life of St. Martin, First two point guy rope 
attachment.
1328 A.D. Siege of Monte Massi, First three point guy rope 
attachment.
1425 - 1450 A.D. Veronese Camp Scene, single guy rop going into 
valance.
1450 - 1490 A.D. Hortoire du Grand Alexandre, three point guy rope 
attachment up and under valance.
1455 - 1465 A.D. Judith taking Holoferne's Head, two point guy rope 
attachment going through valance.
1460 A.D. Justinus, Two point guy rope attachment with two guy ropes 
per attachment, note complicated knot employed.
1465 A.D. Le Cueur d' Amours Espris, five point guy rope attachment 
to top of valance.
Last quarter 15thc. The tent of Achilles, three point guy rope 
attachment through top of valance with corresponding nob above 
valance.
1489 A.D. The Shrine of Saint Ursula, single point guy rope 
attachment to re-inforcement at top of valance.
1493 - 1495 A.D. Shahname of Ferdowsi, single point guy rope 
attachment to ovate leaf shaped re-inforcing.
15thc. Jean Froissart Chronicle, three point guy rope attachment 
mostly up under valance, except 'Siege of Lisbon' where the 
attachment is to the top of the valance.
1520 A.D. The Court of Faridum, single point guy rope attachment to 
circular re-inforcing.
1530 A.D. Entry of Emporer Charles into Munich, Only tent showing 
circular grommet, double guy rope attachment through valance.
1560 A.D. Murder of Iraj by his brothers, single point guy rope 
attachment to 1/2 circle re-inforcing above valance.
1575 A.D. Funeral of Suleiman II, double guy rope attachment to 1/2 
rings at top of valance.
1576 A.D. The Great Shooting Match of Strassburg, Double point guy 
rope attachment with corresponding dots of roof, also on another tent 
double point guy rope attachment under valance with corresponding 
dots in valance.
