those are better at reflecting radiant body heat back, not real good
at insulation against the heat sumping into the colder ground (heat
travels to cold ... basic law of thermodynamics).  better to have a
solid insulation layer below you (dense foam is ideal) and the space
blanket above / around you ... these are great things (compact,
useful, and cheap).  as a matter of course, i keep a couple in my
truck first aid kit and alway have a couple stashed down in my saddle
bags when i'm on walk-about on the bike.
