This actually is a more common medieval adaptation of the 'bell wedge' style tent. The ones
commonly seen with the flap-like door(s) that can double as awnings are more common for American
Civil War era, but there is evidence, found at Castle Coburg, of these flap-type doors being put
on belled wedge tents as early as the 1630s, and used as awnings during a hunting party.

The Tudor Bell Wedge, with the door in the side, is seen in Field of Cloth of Gold, if memory
serves, as well as others, including many in the Middle and Near East (though the doors are
normally shown as slits, not as a rounded opening with a cover, like on the link that I shared).
