I'm not sure which of mine you are thinking of. If it is the single
centerpole pavilion in editions of the Miscellany prior to the
current edition, I would advise against it, since I think I now have
a better design--one that I owe to Daffyd (David Kuijit). You can see
it in the current edition of the Miscellany, which is on my web page
in pdf format (an older edition is webbed by someone else with my
permission in HTML). If it is the Geteld--the 9th century pup
tent--in the Miscellany, you might rethink making it, since it's easy.
Of the two designs in the current Miscellany, the Geteld is easier to
make, but less space efficient. Both are easy to put up--less than
half an hour by myself. I don't know of anyone selling either, I'm
afraid.

When I ordered my Geteld, I gave Chris the design and he then told me all
the problems and we went over canvas
types/strengths/costs/availability/colour etc. and came up with a final
product. If you gave him a picture of what you want and the approx
dimensions (12ft diameter + an approx wall and centre pole height), he
would be able to work it all out.
My tent was done with door ties etc to look authentic, and those sort of
things are no problem. Because of the size of my tent, he has sewn belt
strap re-enforcing into some areas (though you can't see unless you look
closely) to reduce the potential for the canvas to tearat these joins. The
only part of my tent that is not authentic an is obvious (apart from modern
canvas and machine stiching) is the peg loops, originally we were going to
us canvas loops, but due to the size a weight of the tent, we would have had
to have one every 50cm or so, so we used belt strapping and D-rings (I
wanted the tent to last for a long time, there should be no problem now even
in a severe storm).
The largest determining factor in the cost of the tent is going to be the
weight of canvas you want to use.
Speak to Chris and see what you think, but I would also speak to Angela (who
I agree has made some great tents). The other option is to get out the
Yellow pages and start ringing tent makes/Canvas manufacturers one by one,
thats how I got onto Chris (he was the 14th place I had contacted).
I hope thats helpful
All the best

Greetings all from Master Terafan,
In preparation for the spring/summer pavilion season, I called Itex
in Colorado as one source of supply for canvas. They provided me with the
following information.
The sales rep said that they ship FOB via UPS out of Butler, GA and
it is about $25 to VA and $40 or so to CA.
He also said they often have remnant rolls at 25-30% off. Call and
check.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Prices go up on 1 February 00.
respectfully,
Terafan

I've done business with Itex and like them. They have high quality
tent canvas (sunforger with all the usual treatments) at a very
reasonable price. And they are friendly and helpful people.
I suspect the remnants you are referring to are partial rolls of that
canvas. They also have "remnants" at much more than 30% off--prices
like a dollar to two dollars a yard for serious canvas.
The remnant prices are for the whole piece, which is likely to be at
least fifty yards and may be in the hundreds. They are colored. Itex
generally can't tell you in much detail what treatments (mildew
resistance, fire resistance, etc.) a remnant roll has had, although
the person you talk to may be able to give an informed guess. And
they will send you a sample. They will also send you a list of
remnants, but it may or may not correspond to what they currently
have in stock, since it doesn't seem to be revised very often, so you
may do better by just talking to the person at the other end of the
phone about what you need and having him see what they have.
The walls of our big tent were made from part of one roll of the low
cost remnants (black) and our children's tent was expanded with part
of another (blue). We still have lots of the latter if anyone local
wants to buy some of it from us.

Is there a place for chair designs on line.
We are wanting to make the fold up chairs that has the has the s curve on the wood.
Would like about four of them made. I have a lot of people coming to my tents to hang out and it would look so much nicer to have a large amount of chairs to have for them to sit in then the coleman chairs.
