Actually, woodworking hasn't changed all that much in the last thousand
years. Only the addition of power tools and modern factories have had
significant impacts. Today's hand tools are remarkably similar to the
old ones (if it ain't broke, don't fix it).

On the other hand, the artistic applications and design details changed
dramatically every few hundred years (especially in furniture), so it's
all a matter of what you're after : art or craft. The art will be
extremely varied, while the craft has remained fairly constant.

On the other hand, you probably already know this, so I can be safely
ignored.
