dunno who the list administrator is.. but they need to set thier
parameters to not accept mail from outside the list. He tried to spam
rolling thunder but i have it set that way and simply deleted him..
please delete my account from this virus/spam riddled list thank y ou

...
it's not really a "he" it's a "them" ... this long standing fraud has
become so lucrative to the Nigerians, it's most likely become a
govenment sactioned thing .... they've been around so long (since
back in the bbs days) that long ago i stopped getting irate about
them (does minimal good) and either simply delete them (i average
20-30 of them on my system weekly), or occasionally have some fun
with them.

consider it just that "cyber dirt" that gets tracked in from outside
that you have to sweep out on a regular basis ... cursing the dirt
does little good, so you have several options - close all the doors &
windows (though it usually finds a way inside anyway), or live with
it and keep a broom handy.

one powerful option, and one i recommend to *all* readers ... learn
the filter / rules of your email clinet (mine is outlook XP & outlook
express 6.x). these are invaluable tools for manageing your email
flow ... they allow the system to look for patterns or words in the
headers, subects, and bodies and take soem action on them ... in this
case, if "known patterns" in header / subject / body (see list - such
as "nigeria *and* assisstance or help") then do action (move to
holding area, pending inspection and deletion). ie: only reason i
even saw this thread, it was the weekly time to clean out the holding
area

on a more positive note, if you are on several / many lists and you
don't like wading through a massive inbox, create rules to move the
messages from each list into their own storage area, pending reading
(mine is a very complex storage hierarchy, especially the
/culture/scadian/... branch (for example, i am now in the "email
storage - list" file (i like to keep my outlook mail files no bigger
than 500-700mb each, so i break them up into seperate email "stores")
answering a message in:
/culture/scadian/art_craft_domestic/encampments (sorted by date,
sometimes by subject when wading through several days of new entries)

part of the the price we pay for the "brave new world" ... while list
owners can take some actions, it is ultimately up to the end user to
maintain their own email environment for themselves. responsibility
ultimately starts with yourself, never rely on others to do it for
you ....
