Greetings from the A&S corner!

With the new millenium Raven’s Fort is starting a new tradition: the Artisan
of the Season. I have included below this missive the text of the
requirements and nomination process for this fine title.
Our artisans need your help and support. Please take a little time to send
via Email, land mail or telephonic message your nominations. All you need
to include are your name (both SCA and mundane) the name of the person you
are nominating, the field you are nominating them for as well as the season
intended.
Choose well and very soon! The first four artisans will be given the honor
of designing (don’t worry about the manufacturing aspect, that’s my job!)
the medallions so that all may remember who the first inductees were.
I am waiting, quite impatiently, for your nominations!
Gwynn the Lizardkeeper, minister of A&S for the Barony of Raven’s Fort.
Artisan of the Season

Purpose and Goals:

The Artisan of the Season will consist of 4 different artists’ chosen each
year for one particular style of artwork format for one season. The season’s
being Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Each “season” will last for 3 months.
During those 3 months, they will be promoted and spotlighted for their
talent and achievements they were chosen for. Once that season is over, a
new artisan is selected representing the next season, to be promoted and
spotlighted for their talent and achievements and so on. For example, when
the season’s change (i.e. – winter to spring), the winter artisan will
continue to support, promote, learn and share their knowledge for the
remaining 9 months of that year, until their season comes around again. When
a new winter artisan is selected, the former winter artisan will step out of
season at that year’s end.

We are hoping that this will encourage our local artisan’s to continue to
expand their knowledge and talents even more. The more abilities, talents
and interests an artisan has, the more opportunities for that artisan to be
selected for each different individual style of artwork. We hope to
encourage outside support and to promote multiple interests and talents.

This format has the potential to evolve and grow into something greater in
the future. For now, this is one small step (one of many) in the positive
direction to promote and encourage our artisan’s growth and development
within the Barony of Raven’s Fort.

In Service,
Baron David st. David
Baroness Chrystal Ariana MacRuari
Current Baronial A&S Minister, HE Gywnn the Lizardkeeper.

Requirements and Obligations:

**The artist chosen will have up to one full calendar year to produce one or
more handcrafted items within the artists’ area of specialty. These items
will be used for the gift baskets the Barony will present at future GulfWar
events (baskets put together will be given to another kingdom. The barony
has currently been assigned the Kingdom of Antir, though this may possibly
change in the future) and both future January and July Coronation events
(baskets which will be given ongoing) for the incoming and outgoing
Majesties.

**The artist chosen will be required to produce 2 articles for the baronial
newsletter, Quoth the Raven within a specified amount of time. The first
article would be due sometime during the artists’ “season” (during the first
3 mos.) and the second article would be due sometime within the remaining 9
mos. time frame (before their year is complete). Attaching a bibliography
would be GREATLY appreciated!! (Hint, Hint…)

**OPTION to teach a class on their artistic specialty

**Be willing to promote and share your talent and ability with the populace
for one calendar year. Utilize all of the resources available to you and to
pass on your knowledge and skill. Be on call as another Baronial Artist,
working alongside with Artisan of the Fort for a one year time frame.

What the artisan will receive in addition to a hearty thank you…

Each artisan chosen for each season will receive:

**Word fame and having talents spotlighted for 3 months (length of the
season chosen for).
**At the populace meeting after the artisan’s season is over, that artisan
will be “showcased” at that meeting. A “show and tell” (if
you will) of their skills and specialty by the artist bringing examples
of past/current/future projects and the artist standing up for five
to ten minutes and talk on their subject of specialty and skills.
**Opportunity to be seen & heard in various formats (newsletters, person,
spoken about constructively, etc) throughout the kingdom
    and possibly the know world.
**A pass on medallion to be worn for one year
(i.e.: Winter from beginning of winter to the end of the next fall =
Dec 2000 to Nov 2001, etc.).
**A nifty scroll to keep…

Artisan of the Season (cont’d)

The Selection Process…

Any member of the populace of Raven’s Fort will solely do the submitting of
the names that live within the zip codes belonging to the Barony of Raven’s
Fort. They may choose one artisan, with one style of artwork per season. If
someone has many talents/interests to choose from, they will have more
opportunities to be “seasonal artists’”. The selection process will be done
during the one month prior to the season starting. They will have up to
30-31 days (depending upon the number of days in the month) to get the
information to the current A&S Minister. The selection will be done at the
meetings listed below:

VOTING MONTH/ANNOUNCEMENT MADE AT POPULACE MEETING MONTH/SEASON TIME FRAME
November/December for Winter Artisan/December,January,February
February/March for Spring Artisan/March,April,May
May/June for Summer Artisan/June,July,August
August/September for Fall Artisan/September,October,November

VERY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER:
If an artist is chosen for spring (for example), they will not be available
for another season until that tenure of spring season has been completed (3
mos. in spotlight, 9 mos. highlighted). That way, other artisan’s will be
available to have their work looked at and seen for the remaining 3 seasons
(summer, fall & winter) equaling 4 different artisans per calendar year (Jan
– Dec).

The information for consideration will be sent to the A&S Minister.
Submissions may be made by:
E-mail, snail-mail letter, telephone (leave complete info on answering
machine) or given to the current A&S Minister in person.
Entries received without a submitter’s SCA & mundane name will not be
considered.
The current A&S Minister is HE Gwynn the Lizard Keeper, (936)291-0734,
lizardkeep at hotmail.com

The information required from the person submitting a viable candidate is:
1-Date submission is made
2-The sender’s SCA & mundane name(s)
3-The season person is being recommended for
4-One candidate’s SCA & mundane name(s)
5-Choose one singular art form this person does or has done. There are quite
a number of art forms out there to
chose from, so be as specific as you can. {i.e.: weaving – what type of
weaving specifically?}
6-The reason(s) why you are submitting this person to be an Artisan of the
Season

The deciding factor members after receiving the input from populace members
at the end of that month will be:
	**The local A&S Minister
**The Baron and Baroness of Raven’s Fort
(None of the listed positions deciding will be allowed to make their own
submission!)

PS – This concept and handout is a work in progress… Hopefully there will
not be any changes made… If there are any to be made, the populace will be
notified of the change ASAP. Thank you!
