I want to make this absolutely cyrstal clear right now. I do not, nor do I
have any reason to claim any lying, deception, or other disreputable acts on
the part of the King Duncan, Queen Larissa, or HE Mistress Clarissa. Their
(then) Highnesses went through a lot of trouble, inconvenience, and
(considering the weather during the poll) not a small amount of personal
risk to deal with the polling matter. They were not required by any SCA or
Kingdom convention to ask for the non-member opinion, but did so anyway.
That in itself shows a great deal of generosity to people whom they met only
berifly. That's the mark of a good Crown.

HE Mistress Clarissa had a very difficult job to do, and did so to the best
of her abilities. I remind you all that she volunteered for this duty, just
as she has in times past. She acted with patience and competence in dealing
with a group during a stressful time. When I sent her questions, she
answered each in a timely manner and with great clarity. I find no flaw in
her excellent performance.

I know how it sounds, but there really is no good way to put it. You and I
still know each other well enough to judge if I am acting in a self-serving
manner. And as for the names, no, I have no intention of releasing them
publicly.

I am aware, and I am told that it is being researched.

I am having a hard time putting words to it. Perhaps an example will serve
better. Brian and I have been friends for years. We trust each other
completely and have absolutely no ill will toward each other. In the days
after David and Chrystal announced they would be stepping down, it was made
known that Brian and Jacinth would accept nomination for the B&B' position.
I supported him completely and often said so to any who would listen. Then
Katrine and I were ended up in the running (I'll spare you the details).

You see the situation I was in. I was in direct competition with the man I
was supporting. I was, of course, thrilled that my fellows thought highly
enough of us to nominate Katrine and I, but I had a sense that I had
betrayed the friend I had been supporting. It took a long time and several
talks with Brian before I felt the matter had been resolved. Even now, after
this has all been said and done, it's still in the back of my mind.

I can't put it any better than that. I hope you understand what I mean.

I'm in complete agreement there. No matter which way each of us chooses to
go, keep the lines of communication open. If the Shire fails, we will still
be part of Raven's Fort. If it succeeds, we will all be neighbors with a
common heritage. There is absolutely no reason this has to be a bitter
matter.
