I just wanted to share a few thoughts on the theme of
"lunch" "period lunch" and "finger foods"

the three can go together very well.

A few years ago I discovered that lunch always
happened right when I was fighting, and figuring out a
bardic, and sometimes an A&S competition, and
frequently when I was at an event by myself . . .
very problematic.

I cured the problem by getting myself the following: a
summer sausage, a block of cheese, a bunch of grapes,
and a small loaf of bread.

The real trick was that I cubed the sausage and cheese
in advance and placed them in ziplock bags. (separate
bags, definitely)

This makes for a VERY period meal, and also a meal
with zero setup time, and it is additionally both very
tastly and very filling.

Since my first attempts at this period lunch, I have
added almonds (whole raw shelled--about $5 a pound,
but that serves a buttload of people), walnuts, dried
apricots, and different cheeses. For those who
actually know how to cook, different beefs and
chickens can be done the same way. I am sure the
inventive cooks amongst us with think up even more
great ideas . . .

Serving is mega-easy. Put each item onto a serving
tray--larger serving trays can hold all the items on
one tray. Nobody needs a plate for themselves,
everybody just picks up what they need from the table.
This cuts down on cleanup and on wasted food. It
also allows everyone to eat on the fly, which is how
lunch happens anyway--between conversations, meetins
with old friends, getting information, shopping, etc.
Leftovers can quickly be dumped back into their
ziplock bag and set back in the cooler. It is an
especially easy way to go about lite fare such as
lunch.
