[Ravensfort] B&B Populous Polling!

Dear Everybody:

As you know it is extremely rarely that I sound off.
Having said that, here is my sound:

I am inclined to agree that it does seem a little
sudden that the populace should be polled June 7.
However, if we are polled in July that gives the crown
and the heirs only 2 and 1/2 months to get ready. If
we assume that the crown should be given at LEAST one
month to decide, that leaves only one and 1/2 months
for the heirs to prepare. As Chrystal pointed out,
this is very little time. So while the June date does
seem rushed, I can see the logic of it.

As for a "fix" being in: If there is a fix, it is the
most cleverly disguised and well-planned out fix I've
ever seen (and note that I have a FORMIDABLE capacity
for ascertaining this sort of thing--I didn't go to
law school for nothin'). I have made some rounds
since the announcement and talked with many
people--those interested in putting in a bid for the
next B&B and those just interested in who it will
be--and I can say from firsthand knowledge that there
is no sign of a decision already having been made. No
candidate I know of is even a front-runner, much less
the preemptive choice.

Incidentally, all of the above does support the "too
soon" argument. Technically, I don't even know who
the candidates are. That is to say, I know who some
of them are from my own investigation, but no one has
made an official bid for the position, or been
officially nominated, or been officially whatever
we've decided is going to be the procedure . . . which
brings up another point: we haven't even announced
what the procedure is going to be. Yet more fuel to
the "too soon" argument's fire . . .

If it is best that we hold the poll at the next
populace, then so be it. The argument can be made,
and effectively so, that a month is enough time to
ascertain the candidates and make an informed and
conscientious decision.

I humbly submit the alternate plan that nominations or
bids (or whatever) for the next B&B be made at the
next populace, and that the poll take place at the
business meeting on June 21.

Drawbacks: you have to go to two meetings. Yes, true,
I would reply, but if you're really interested in who
our next B&B are going to be, you'll find the time.
Advantage: a little more time for the populace--for
all of us--to understand what is going on as far as
the procedure is concerned, and a little time to
think, in a formal and reflective manner, about the
various commendations of all the candidates--and
incidentally, also an opportunity to know who the
candidates are.
And, I think, still enough time for the crown and the
heirs to have leisure in which to do what they need to
do.

Please note that I have said all the above in an
effort to be helpful and productive. Thank you for
listening.

Sounding completed.

Lord Cathal SilAlmhain,
Concerned and interested member of Raven's Fort, but
sadly not a member for very much longer . . . but
still interested!
