[Ravensfort] B&B Populous Polling!

Doug,

We have been working on our step down for two years. Everyone and their mother
has speculated about it. This is no BIG surprise.

Berta and I decided 'dammit we're gonna do it' in February. The "Crown rumor" was
the last straw. At that time we almost dumped an investiture in your lap for 'Day
in the Garden.' Wouldn't have been too nice of us though and would have wrecked
the entire event as would have any announcement at that time. It was a festive
event and we wanted to keep it that way.

So we waited out the event and made the announcement at the first populous
following, on May 3. Our announcement was also posted to the Ravens Fort list the
following day. The Crown had been aware since Red Tape and coordination with the
Southern Regional Seneschal had been in work for a week or so.

Between the time we announced and Defender is 4 1/2 months. Alot of stuff must
happen in that time. First and foremost is our local input to the Crown (actually
TRH's will decide). Keep in mind that it is strictly that. This IS NOT an
election. The choice is solely their decision. Your vote means diddly if they
wish it, however, I'm certain the polling results will influence them greatly.
Recent protocol for B&B selection has also called for face to face interviews
between them and every candidate. That trend will likely continue. To top it
off, all of this is being thrown at TRH's just before their Coronation (July 6),
so it's not terribly convenient. Assuming they announce their choice at
Coronation, we will have less than 2 1/2 months to prepare for the investiture. I
might add, if we were to wait the additional month you suggest our polling would
take place 2 days before Coronation.

Now, as far as "a fix." Well, assuming their soon to be Majesties have been
bought off, then yeah maybe. I'll let you take that up with them. As far as a
local fixing, well, bunk. We have made every effort to push the course of events
off onto persons outside the group, namely the SR Seneschal, who lives in Austin,
and her 'Chain of Command.' We've even gone so far as to dissuade our local
Seneschal's participation or assistance in any way for obvious reasons.

You are correct. This IS somewhat fast paced, however, there is no other approach
with the time we have available and the hoops we've got to get through. Much of
the process relies on persons who live elsewhere. I am content we are doing
everything possible to make this transition fair and amicable to everyone who has
a part in it, from the Crown to the local populous. It may not be convenient, but
the course is set and has the appropriate blessings. I don't see anyone changing
it.

regards,
DsD, Raven's Fort
