Greetings,

First of all, Kezia and I are officially neither for this program nor
against it. We want the Barony to do what it wants to in these types of
programs....but there must be a grass roots support for it.

Some historical notes about trash pick up here.....

The populace, several months ago, voted not to continue the program due to
a lack of support.

The trash pick-up of last Sunday was announced at the last business meeting
and the populace prior to that and on the list last week and the week
before, that it was occurring and yet only Keif, Lorraine, Kezia,
Jean-Michel and I came and helped.

It took 3+ hrs to complete. fortunatly there was not much there and we hit
mainly the big and obvious items.

The program is a very good program.....

BUT......

There has not recently been a level of support for it in the Barony that
warranted it's continuance. So it was stopped.

When the program was started about 4 years or so ago, we had 7-10+ show up
at a time. Then it drifted down from there, until there was a vote to stop
participation in the program.

At that time I contacted the TxDOT folks of our intent to terminate the
program and they thanked us for what we had done and the vests and
remaining bags were returned.

I also understand Sir Keifs feelings of the helping of the community. There
is nothing wrong with that and I think the program is good....

IF......

There would be a reasonable level of support so that not the same 5 people
are always having to do the pick up.

As it was discussed Sunday, if there had been 10-12 picker-uppers, the
whole deal could have been done in half the time.

The first 4-5 times we did the pick-up, we had that kind of support...but
it lost support as time went on.

NOW, we come today.....Nov/Oct 2001.

We can re-visit the idea of having the program again if we wish. That is a
good goal and solution for possible community involvement for the Barony,
if the Barony votes to participate......

BUT......

If the populace votes to re-enroll in the program to do the trash pick-ups
again, there must be a significant level of participation that is on a
sustained basis so that the same folks are not, again, always doing all the
picking up.

We can, if desired talk about the idea at Populace, Thursday night, but it
would be best that no decisions be made on any subjects discussed, as this
is an informational gathering meeting.

It is the first of several meetings that thru the progress will include
decision making, but best not in the first one. We do not need to be making
snap decisions.

I hope all understand this. However, the subject would be appropriate to
bring up at a business meeting for a decision and that would be possible at
the Nov business meeting, provide it was ok with the Seneschal.

The only concern I have is, getting the Barony into something that few will
support. And even then some of those few supporting it grudgingly.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO,

Everyone come Thursday night for the Populace meeting and we will see what
ideas come up and solutions are suggested.

Any questions can be directed to me or Kezia.

Thanks for the bandwidth.

Niklas
