For your information:

On August 18 & 19 (Sat. & Sun.), 7 PM at The Museum of Fine Arts Houston there will be a showing of the director Ingmar Bergman's movie "The Seventh Seal". (Sweden, 1957, 92 min.) Even though this showing is subtitled it is so worth seeing. Watching the English version of this movie when I was very, very young started my fascination with everything Medieval.

> After fighting in the Crusades, a 14th-century knight makes his way back to his home country of Sweden, which is suffering the effects of the Black Plague. Along the way, the knight meets Death and challenges the hooded figure to a chess game to postpone his inevitable demise.

Although Bergman had been directing films for more than a decade, "The Seventh Seal" is the one that made him a household name. "What amazes me about this film - which has a reputation for heavy philosophical stuff and drags a ton of academic baggage around with it - is that it's so watchable, so accessible. "The Seventh Seal" is not great because it's an allegory about the human condition, it's great because it's a film about life and death" www.worldfilm.about.com <

Perhaps we will see you there.
