>From the Autocrat of Defender of the Fort.

Ok, well, the trees in the Equestrian area ARE coming down this week. Ya gotta laugh. We can't be upset as the land owners have been, and still are, more than generous to us. The use of their land has been a wonderful gift to the SCA for years. If they need the trees, we are happy that they are able to use them. It is just the fickle finger of fate that has thrown a clinker into our boot. If the area is left unusable we will make other accommodations for our friends on horse back. Baron Brian has some ideas. What ever needs to be done will be. On the up side, the loggers have widened the entry road even more than we had. There are silver linings to every cloud.

Kief is doing the mowing with the big bat-wing tractor so while he has it out he and Brian will cut and knock over the fallen Dreaming Tree. The mowing is going well. The place should look manicured by Defender.

Today we finished cleaning up the clutter under the cover attached to the storeshed. The ropes were removed from the rotten tents that were torn and too weak to use. Then they were loaded up and unceremoniously dumped in the wash to stop erosion. Again, we can't complain. They were Korean War issue and fifty years old. The extra plastic barrels were hauled off for other uses and the old archery targets and rotten plastic tarps are in trash cans in front of my house waiting for pick up tomorrow morning.

The Stones site is in excellent shape. We have just a few thing to complete next weekend.
1. Hang the two big green tents so that on the Friday of the event all we have to do is stake the poles.
2. Lawnmower the list field and one or two other areas.
3. Fill water barrels.
4. Go to the store room and ready the kitchen and other event stuff.
5. A quick chainsaw clean up of a few logs that were pulled to the bonfire area.
6. I highly encourage those of you with campsites to make an effort to clean them up a bit since we will have so many Kingdom movers and shakers on site.

My heart felt thanks to everyone that has worked on site and at home on this event. All I am is a coordinator. You are the ones that make these events work. Without the efforts of devoted SCA members, the Autocrat is nothing. Raven's Fort has been blessed with talent and generous friends all around us. Thank you all for living "the dream".

See you next weekend.

In peaceful service to the Barony and the Kingdom,
Vlod NotVlad

Another good work day, but it was one step forward and two steps back.

A third of the Dreaming Tree has split and fallen between the list field and the bonfire. It is attached to the main trunk firmly and has several branches securely on the ground. Please do not cut on the fallen tree. We will trim off the branches that are beyond the points where they first touch the ground, but leave the fingers that hold it up. It will make a sturdy monkey bars for the event.

The second step backwards is the fact that almost ALL of the trees in the Equestrian camping area that we have worked so long and hard to make look so pretty have been marked with blue paint to be harvested for lumber. Who says that god doesn't have a sense of humor ? I am hoping that we can talk them into waiting two weeks before cutting them down. We'll see.

More poles have been painted and the cover next to shed has been cleaned up. I hope that we can get rid of the rotten tents tomorrow.

We will be back on sit tomorrow around 11 AM. I hope to see some of you there. We need lawn mowers.

Many thanks to all that worked today.

  In service,
  Vlod NotVlad
