[Ravensfort] Populace issues - another thought

I this email I used the word private, for the officers meeting, that was a poor choice of words on my part. with a group this large, the officers need a forum to communicate ideas in a mannor that is efficent. I do not want to nor was was it my intent to express it was a closed meeting. It has always been a open meeting for any who made the choice to attend.

these are my personal thoughts. 

A single officers meeting needs to happen. This is an event where the officers have a chance to speak to each to other in private. This is necessary to the operation of a group this size. It not only lends itself to the purpose of the barony but it allows the leadership to give direction. There are a great many things that go on at an officers meeting that are  about the shear operation of the barony that take a great deal of time. I also believe there needs to be a populace meeting where folks are kept informed and can be given a voice on the very same direction. 

For example, the officers look at a number of port o poty contracters. It is up to our officers to secure the best price and the best service. The populace needs to know, and if they have a issue can speak up about it. There are more such as land use, money (income/expences), crown issues, and reporting. These are all important things that yes must be done but the populace as whole needs not be part of it on  expence by expence or a phone call by phone call.

I agree with Volod. We should think about having a populace in the 
Southern region. It is true that our Barony extends far and wide across this
mighty Kingdom.
So I think we should keep Officers in the Southern Barony (with food) and we
should hold populace there as well, maybe every 2 to 3 months.

One more issue from Populace:
It has been suggested that there is not a need for a second "business" meeting every month.

The second meeting is actually an "Officers" meeting where the details of a group are worked out.
How many time have you heard someone say, 
"Let's not get bogged down with the details right now. 
We can work that out later when there's not so many people waiting on us." ?
I you delete the Officers Meeting, there is no later.
We either work it out at populace, or a small group will make the decisions with little in-put from others.
There is a reason that almost all SCA groups have a "second" "Officers" meeting.
It works very well.

On top of that... and let me try to say this as gently as I can, as I do not want to be offensive...
If you delete the Officers Meeting, you also delete the only meeting in the south of our Barony.
Every time it is suggested that we do away with the southern meeting
( about once every two years ) 
there are several of us that actually live down here that get our feelings hurt.
We southerners ( the red-headed step-children of the Barony ) should not have to deal with this so often.
I will ask again, just as I asked two years ago, 
Should we have Populace Meet in the south every other month ?
I know that is not going to happen.
Should we let south Barony go to Gate's Edge or Stargate ?
Nobody wants to see that happen either.
I know that the people in Huntsville don't like to drive so far, but try to be a little fair about things.
Southerners have to drive up every time there is a guild meeting or workday or anything else.
We have had success with our recruiting efforts in the south lately.
Why would we want to take away the only local meeting ???

All that being said, I will point out that at Populace Meeting last Thursday the room was FULL.
The system that we have in place seems to be working very well.
Why would we want to mess with that ?
