I agree with everything Devin said below, but want to add one other thing:  There is a spam-bot out there that is spamming people's inboxes appearing to come from an actual ansteorra list, when in fact it is not.
 
For example:  you could get a spam message from oem-sales at register.net, and you could look at it and say--aha! that is spam!
 
you could get a message from lists at ansteorra.org and say aha! that is legit!  and if a hacker had hacked lists at ansteorra.org, the list admin could change a few things and the hacker would be blocked again.
 
In this case, the spam from oem-sales at register.net is masquerading itself as lists at ansteorra.org.  The spammmer doesn't actually have any access to lists at ansteorra.org,  he is just making it look like he does so that you don't see the email as spam.  This distinction is important, because the list admin at lists at ansteorra.org doesn't have any power to stop this from happening.
 
So, to reiterate: #1-these spam emails you are getting look like they are coming from an official list, but they are not. #2 there is nothing that anyone on the official lists can do to stop it that has not already been done.
 
Lastly, remember that Dev and I really are deleting over a hundred spam a week.  If anyone knows of someone who legitimately wants to join the list--and this may become an important issue come this weekend--please have them email one of the two list mods directly, or have someone on the list email the list directly, so that we mods can have a heads up and clear them.  Once again, this is not a policy and is not required, it is just a way of making sure things work smoothly the first time.

Just so everyone knows. There has been TONS of spam coming into the various list of Ansteorra. The problem is being worked on. Cathal and myself literally delete hundreds of spam mail weekly. Sometimes it gets through... please be patient and the problem will be fixed. In the meantime, if it looks fishy then delete it.
