[Ravensfort] Populace canceled

Greetings to all,

Everything possible was done considering the circumstances concerning the 
canceling of populace. The fireman were setting up their ER command center to 
deal with the ice and snow storm. As soon as I found out I notified the 
seneschal. The seneschal, other members of the barony, and myself began calling 
everyone we possibly could and as fast as possible. There were also messages 
posted on facebook, ravensfort email list, phone text, and college guild list. 
It is possible that some members did not get the messages for those who didn't a 
note was left on the door. I am sorry that some members of the barony did not 
get notified until they saw the note on the door, but everything humanly 
possible was done to notify the populace. Sometimes SCA activities have to deal 
with mundane circumstances especially the weather and devastating consequences 
that come with it. Considering the special circumstances I think everyone did a 
fantastic job.

There were a few members that went to the firehouse, not knowing that the 
meeting had been canceled. I was not phoned at all! What we need is a phone tree 
that would inform people two or more hours before the event. 


My second suggestion goes toward the fire-station wanting to use the meeting 
hall and leaving us without a meeting place for that night for populace. Or if 
we can't meet at the fire-station. Let's take a page from a Sci-fi TV show, 
Stargate SG-1. If our meeting place isn't available, then we need a "Beta Site." 
And the ability for those who don't have limited to no transportation to get 
there. 


I hope that last night could be different and done in a more positive manner.
