Lemoine,

I would like to thank H.E. Brian for the use of his forge, and the tool needed to see an example of what my research had been telling me. Bucklow tells us in his book that Lapis Lazuli was broken down by the heating of the stone then placing it into vinegar. Do to the cost of pigment grade Lapis I used two different stones to see how this process worked, The first stone was everyday limestone that is made up of calcite. When heated then dropped into the vinegar it gave off a lot of steam and left a very nice gray and white partials in the bottom of the bowel. I gave this to Lord Devin so he could experiment in making pigment. I also fished out some wood ash for him. I hope he enjoys his pigments. Then I heated hematite then placed it into the vinegar. In both rocks the heat made the rocks brittle enough to grind with the tools used in period. It was also a pleasure to show my craft off to other members of the Barony. I had a great time. I enjoyed the company of all of those good people that made it out for the day. Once again I give many thanks to H.E. Brian for having use at his place. It was a very wonderful day.
