Class Description: Have you ever found a love of some aspect of SCA
arts and/or sciences and chosen not to enter Arts and Sciences
competitions because you don’t have a love of how to write the thing up?
This is the class for you. Documenting your work regarding your chosen
craft, or writing a research paper for the
SCA can be daunting. It is a set of skills that can seem overwhelming
and certainly isn’t a set of skills that are as
fun to discover as, say, calligraphy, making armor, or creating a
beautiful gown.
Yet these skills are simple to learn, with easy methods for how to
document what you’ve done, how to research
what you love, the simple format of how to write things up, defined
procedures for writing footnotes, types of
sources to follow and which ones to avoid. In brief:
• Specific, concrete skills taught
• How the documentation and/or research paper should be written
• What points should it cover; i.e. what points are being looked for,
and which aren’t
• Research sources; libraries, Internet, other SCA research, etc.
• How the judging process occurs, step by step
In addition, I will offer the added opportunity that if you choose to
submit something for an Arts and Sciences
competition that requires documentation, or wish to submit a research
paper, I will review your paper, critique it,
and offer suggestions so that it will be the best effort possible when
you submit it for competition.

both heavy and rapier and it can be dressed up
by embroidery and trim to be worn during courts. In this class I will
teach you the technique of a basic t-tunic that
uses only “two” cuts and two seams. By the time you leave the class

provide the fabric, depending upon the amount of
fabric used for your t-tunic, your fee will be $5-$20. I would
appreciate a donation for the use of my tools and the
handout, but it is not required.
Notes: If you are bringing your own fabric, please bring three to six
yards that has been washed. Know that we are not
going to do anything fancy in the class, just teach you the technique.
