Denbigh was one of the most successful blockade runners of the American Civil
War and was the last to clear a Confederate port. The remains of the ship are
situated off <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Galveston</st1:PlaceName>
 <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Island</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>. It is the only blockade
runner to be excavated in the <st1:place w:st="on">Gulf of Mexico</st1:place>.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
