<DIV>That didn't really sound the way I meant it. </DIV>
<DIV>I have nothing at all against any "Swein". </DIV>
<DIV>In fact some of my favorite people in the world are Swein.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I just think that a better name could be given to the new site than a
household name. I do not believe that so many volunteers would have
been willing to work so hard had our present site been called the Kiersted Site
instead of The Stones of Raven's Fort. It just does not have the same ring
to it. Some people are turned off by clandestine ventures that seem to
benefit a single household. It does not need to have any roots in
reality. It is all about perception. Almost any other name
would be better.</DIV>
<DIV>The Cut n Shoot site</DIV>
<DIV>The Southern site</DIV>
<DIV>The Gundy site ( an unusual enough name that it is intriguing )</DIV>
<DIV>Hey, I have an idea. Let's move the Stones south and call it The New
Stones site.</DIV>
<DIV>Any other suggestions ??</DIV>
<DIV>What is the last name of the guys that own the land ??</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>The second reason that I don't like the name is because the first thing
that most people thing of when they hear Swein site is a muddy wallow full of
pig poop. Bla ! Not a good way to be thought of.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Again, I love the "Swein" and everything they stand for. Their
contributions are much needed in the SCA of current days. Long may they
live.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Anyway, the advice of someone that has nothing to do with the naming of the
new site is to stay clear of the household names.</DIV>

<DIV style="FONT: 10pt arial"><B>Subject:</B> [Ravensfort] Swein site
work</DIV>
<DIV><BR></DIV>Saturday Alaric and Marius went out to the Swein site to do a
little work. I was tied up in Houston with mundane job crap, so I didn't get
out there until after they had left, but the impression I got from Alaric
was that they just got a little stuff done. This was the wrong impression.
Once I got to the site, long after dark, we drove out to the general camping
area (well, it was a good excuse to use 4WD ;) ) to take a look. Wow. It
looks like a different site. Just by headlights and Q-beam the difference
was amazing. I can't wait to see it in the daylight. Thank you so much for
coming out.<BR><BR>The mosquitos out there are about the size of turkey
buzzards, so we're trying to figure out a good way to set up a spray tank to
hose the place down with skeeter remover. <BR><BR>I've discussed it with
Mike and we think the best way to handle permenant campsites will be a bid
system. Basically tell us how many people you need to house, how often
you'll use it, what you want to do to it, and when you can get it done.
Semi-permenant structures are a possibility, as well as permenant fire pits,
etc.<BR><BR>It's an involved story I can't really get into (and is boring
anyway), but I may very well have access to some time on a CNC plasma cutter
in the near future. If so, I'm going to get some ravens, boars, etc. cut out
of 12 ga. steel, weld them to some brackets, and make some lantern hooks we
can throw on trees with a chain (it's an easy project, just a bit tough to
describe). It's still in the possible list, but if it works out I'll need a
good pic of the raven. More on that later.<BR><BR>This weekend we have
access to a much, much bigger tractor with a claw and box blade, as well as
Mike's smaller tractor and brushhog, so if anyone can make it out it would
be a good time. Email or call me if you want to come play and I'll give
directions if you need 'em.<BR>--<BR>Gundy<BR>
