Although I certainly do see your irritation for the -crat words except troll
booth which I think is kind of cute, it appears from preliminary research
that Head Cook is equally non-period. In fact, the adjectives that are
historically associated with the word cook (or chef) usually denote a
particular expertise, e.g. Pastry chef. a person that cooks pastries. By no
great feat of imagination would not the term "Head Cook" denote a person the
cooks heads? Hmmm....just a tho't.
