I agree.  Some years ago, before I knew better, I cooked dishes mentioned in
the book, Fabulous Feasts.  I "thought" they were all period.  Everything met
with approval except the St. Johns Rice.  (Currant rice with Carob Cream)
 Even then it was not picked up by the period police.  The comment was made
that because it was "chocolate looking" it should have been a sweet dish, and
it was not, by any stretch of the imagination.
