I was going to stay out of all hoopla, but I figured I would insert my
$.02 here also.  I have food allergies.  None are very severe, but I
still have them.  I think of them the same as I think of my allergies to
bee stings.  I do not expect anyone else to bring a bee sting kit with
them in case I get stung.  If I get stung and I don't have a kit it is
my own fault.  If I am hosting a feast and someone lets me know of a
specific food allergy, I will try my best to accommodate them.  I knew
someone who like another member on this list, was allergic to garlic.  I
made them special versions that were "garlic-free".  They were greatly
appreciative and I felt proud to have helped them out.  But if they had
not let me know, I would never have had the opportunity.
