...wouldn't you know it? I can't find the source-documentation to back
myself up (me and my big mouth!) but I did find in my files the original
news article that went out over AP back in February. If anyone wants to
see it, let me know. It claims that there are samples of maize (no, not
British corn or wheat - but maize) in Indian temples that has been dated
to the 6th century, as well as maize, pumpkins, yams and peanuts in
China, all cited in medical encyclopedias in 1448.

Now the disclaimer - I'm reading a reporters distillation of the results
of the AAAS meeting a few months ago. I stopped by their web site, but
was un-able to find anything about this particular meeting. Also, this
isn't my position or agenda to make corn acceptable - just putting forth
a bit of historical food info, in case anyone is interested...

Back to foodstuff and subtleties (my spelling TM 1997, Jeffrey
Miller)...

I watched an interesting show on Marzipan and all the wonderful things
you can do with it (like a basket full of marzipan fruits - you couldn't
tell the difference!) anyone have any experience in working with it? I
may try my hand at a few marzipan carrots and maybe some Marzipan Men
(like Gingerbread Men) but if there is anything I need to know about
working with this material, I'm always looking to learn something new...
