How much time has passed, I can't recall. But yearsssss... back my Mother
and I researched foods that would have been available to the modern SCA
cook. We started by researching biblical foods and working our way forward.
Such odd and wonderful information was discovered. One in peticular that I
remember was a plant product called mallow. It was used in many recipes and
imparted a thickening quality. We stumbled across okra and found that it's
scientific name is mallow. Now for the really dumb part.

This researched material was given to Bearkiller and his Queen for their
coronation, in the form of a cross-stitched book. The original then
perished in a flood. I have asked about to see if anyone remembered this
book, but I fear that it may have met the same fate as many coronation
gifts. If anyone knows how I might find this original, I would be greatly
appreciative. (My Mom died after that flood and the book would be a nice
remembrance. It also would be great if the information got circulated.)
