some interesting things I found while looking through this book in botanical
illustration class (some related to recent threads).

grape hyacinth (muscari atlanticum) bulbs used same as shallot (allium
ascalonicum)
>does this mean they could have been part of those allium heavy salat mixes?
Does anybody know of mention of them in food lists, or seen illustrations of
then in herbals or pictures of kitchen gardens?

blueberries=whortleberries,bilberries

genus: prunus= apricot, cherry, peach & almond as well as plum, and they were
all refered to as such
>(just to add to the dried/fresh confusion) could "prune" in recipes mean any
of the above? (well except almond, and maybe apricot(being middle-eastern,
introduced to europe 14thC according to book)

"fruits of bitter orange have no food interest"
>!! verjuice

watermelons from North Africa

not trying to make trouble, just easily distracted by minute trivia!
