In a message dated 97-12-20 13:08:06 EST, you write:

<< So ineffect, there is no longer extant "old world"
 grapes, >>

This somewhat inaccurate and misleading. To wit, until the past 3-5 yrs.
European varieties were grown in Californis and the west coast exclusively on
their own roots. Unfortunately this deadly bug has invaded there also.
Thankfully, not all vineyards have been "invaded". :-)

Secondly, the flavor of the variety is totally and without exception
unaffected by the root stock to which is grafted thus a Cabernet grafted to a
Concord stock still tastes 100% like cabernet and does not in the tiniest bit
take on the IMO, disgusting "foxy" flavor inherent in American native grapes.
