Welcome to the Cook's List!

There are a great many good cooks on the list, and they can give you better
suggestions than I can, but in order to bake over a open fire, it's a good
idea to find/make a field oven. Cast iron Dutch ovens are called that for a
reason- some of the gentles on this list have also been discussing field
ovens. Bear is the one who's most into baking, and from some of his
postings, I'd eat under him any time.

For a quick and easy campfire recipe which gives both bread and food, mix
up your ingredients as for a stew or a hot fruit dessert in your Dutch
oven, and cook until almost done. Top with biscuit dough (slightly dry),
cover, and place near the fire, turning occasionally until biscuit dough is
done. Makes a cross between biscuits and dumplings, and works equally well
as a main dish or a dessert-type item. Also frees the cook for other tasks.
