A few wars ago (perhaps at XX, or XXI), i had an experience similar to
this. I was camped with a group (to which i was new) who had good
relations with an adjoining camp. The camps prety much mingled freely
and the one had offered us freedom to use the large mess hall they had
in their camp. Money was tight then, and i spent much of my war
surviving on canned tuna, peanut butter (not together), apples, etc.
Well as i was walking to the mess one day with my little can, i was
accosted by someone (no idea who...) who pretty much threw me out of
the camp... no gentleness about it. it seems Some high muckety muck
lady has this "can't even smell it or i'll die" allergy.

Now, i'm not a medical doctor, envoromental specialist, or anything
else. but someone with *THAT* degree of allergy should *NOT* be in a
place like pennsic without some sort of protective breathing
apparatis. I (or any of the other 6000 or so people) could have been
walking *by* the camp with tuna in a can, on my garb, or whatever...
you cannot ban food from an event where people are expected to feed
themselves.

I'm not complaining about the rudeness, apparently someone's life was
at risk. IIf this person actually had this allergy, they should have
had some advertisment of the fact such as signs all over the camp and
also they should have taken measures that they couldn't even get it
from a passerby (by say, wearing a respirator)

So to get this back to a sca-cooks topic:
What degree of seperation is reasonable for preparing foods for which
people are allergic:
    1. rinse out the container
    2. wash the container with detergent
    3. wash the container with bleach
    4. Use totally seperate containers (as in kosher sp?)
    5. not even in the same kitchen

in service,
filip
