SC - Soapstone in cooking

This is a sidebar but my Lord is a stonecarver and he experiments with
heating soapstone in a slow oven (about 250 degrees) for 3 hrs(?)  It
changes the molecular density of the stone some how.  (Changes texture,
color.  It has a different carving quality  (less brittle.))  It could be
that people carved out soapstone and "cured" them the same way that people
cure cast iron.  I'm not sure what it does do and I can ask him if you are
interested.
