This is in response to Cariadoc's* question about my Artichokes with
Blueberry Rice adventure. He asked: "Does she say anything about
when or where it is supposed to be from?"

"manuscripts", Sir, the answer is simply "manuscripts!" The full
quote on page 183 is "A variation, in several manuscripts, adds
flaked cooked salmon to the lavender rice, making a startling contrast
in color between the delicate orange-pink of the fish and the purple-
blue of the rice. Use 1/2 cup cooked salmon and stir into rice with
utmost care so that purple dype does not color the fish; or make a well
within the rice and spoon in salmon. Make a thin glaze of ricotta
cheese [?????- Juana Teresa] on top of the stuffed artichokes. Bake
for 12 to 15 minutes at 350 degrees and serve warm."

This quote is IT for documentation. Wanna know something REALLY
weird? [Hold my hand, someone, I'm frightened] she suggested straw-
berries as a substitute for the blueberries. My one valiant effort
with this recipe suggests that the entire concept of the dish is
deeply flawed in that artichokes and berries are simply NOT a
particularly felicitous combination...and I'm a bit dubious about
salmon & ricotta cheese improving things all that much.

Juana Teresa de Salamanca

* I feel a bit odd "first-naming" a total stranger, but I'm still
pretty clueless about proper SCA address.
