This is indeed true. For those who have the space and a green thumb a
European variety of strawberry can be easily gooten and raised for a more
authentic taste when useing strawberries in period recipes. They are called
"Alpine Strawberries" and are available from most good commercial seed and
plant catalogs/suppliers. The berries are small and have an intense
strawberry flavor. The season, however is short and the yield is not high.
For flavor alone, the effort is, IMO, worth it.
