I think that readers of a list dedicated to cooking in the SCA--which,
theoretically is a big part of the SCA **recreation** --should expect to
be asked for documentation. That said,  all SCA participants need to
learn to say "that wasn't my concern when I did this", if, indeed, the
question being asked wasn't; I know of very few folks who won't accept
that as an answer.

I'm sorry the lady in question was offended, but, frankly, I don't see
how anyone could have been gentler..the only question I remember seeing
were along the lines of "Oh, you have documentation for that?  I haven't
been able to find any, what've you got", which is hardly hard-nosing
someone.  Of course, if she got nasty private mail, then someone on this
list (who has probably very wisely chosen to remain anonymous) is way
overstepping their bounds.
