While the author does not give the original recipes, she does give her
sources, and appears to know about cooking and her period.
The strawberry cream is from Martha Washington's Cook Book, which is itself
out of period, but the recipe may not be
The almond cookie recipe is from a notebook by Maria Vittoria della Verde
(1555-1622).
While there are no original recipes in this cookbook.  It is I think still a
very good reference for ingredients, references to alternative primary
sources, beautiful late period paintings of food stuff, and purportedly easily
cookable tastey recipes.  I have seen another out of period book from this
apparent series, has anybody seen a medieval cookbook from this publisher?
