Welcome to the sca-cooks mailing list!

If you ever want to remove yourself from this mailing list,
you can send mail to "majordomo at eden.com" with the following command
in the body of your email message:

    unsubscribe sca-cooks yumitori at marsweb.com

Here's the general information for the list you've
subscribed to, in case you don't already have it:

[Last updated on: Tue Apr 8 9:39:01 1997]

Welcome to the SCA-Cooks mailing list. This initial welcome message
contains
information on how lists like this one work and a set of guidelines for
using thisparticular list.

If you already know all about mailing lists you may skip down to the
GUIDELINES
section and read what you need to know about THIS list to keep from
getting thrownoff.

Mailing lists are high volume, so if you do not want several messages a
day you
may want to consider subscribing to the DIGEST instead. With the digest
you will
get about 1 really long message for each 20 or 30 messages with all
those messageswrapped up in it. If you plan to use the digest, please
see the digest guidelines at the bottom of this document.

As you are new to the Cook's list please take a minute to write a brief
introduction to us telling us who you are, where you hail from and what
your
interests are. Such introductions help us all get acquainted and allow
us to know who we might contact on the list.

WHATEVER YOU POST ON THIS LIST IS FREELY AVAILABLE IN PART OR IN WHOLE
TO ANYONE
WHO WANT TO USE IT, COPY IT OR REDISTRIBUTE IT. This means that anyone
who reads
it may re-distribute it or re-print it freely so long as they do not
take credit
for having written it or sell it. This is generally what we have in mind
when we
post anyway, but be careful if you are posting reports or articles you
intend to
get paid for. You may modify this policy for specific posts by including
a limiteduse disclaimer at the BEGINNING of the message, saying what
restrictions you wish to place on the use of your article.

HOW TO USE A LIST
- -----------------
A list server is just a computer program with an e-mail address. Its job
is to
take any e-mail sent to it and send a copy out to each person on the
list. The
e-mail address for this list is

SCA-Cooks at eden.com

Just address your e-mail to that address and each of us will get a copy.
To get on a list you must subscribe or the owner (me) must put you on.
You don't need to subscribe to this list because if you are getting
this message you are already on the list. If you have a friend who
wants to subscribe (or you get a new e-mail address), have them send
an e-mail to majordomo at eden.com and put only the following line in the
BODY of the message:

subscribe sca-cooks

He/She can leave the subject line blank as the list server ignores it.

If you want to get off this list send a message to
majordomo at eden.com with the following line in the body:

unsubscribe sca-cooks your.address at your.provider.com

If you change e-mail addresses, don't forget to UNSUBSCRIBE your old
address before you subscribe the new one.

There is also an administrative portion of the list that can provide
you with helpful instructions and information. For instructions, send
e-mail to majordomo at eden.com and put these lines in the body:

help
end

You should receive instructions via e-mail.

GUIDELINES
- ----------
 - This list is intended for information about recipes and feasts of the
   SCA and some related concerns.

 - Informative, yet controversial information and rebuttals are welcome.
Pointless flames, gross use of profanity and inflammatory statements
are not. These things distract us from the purpose of this list and
will not be permitted. I am the final judge.

 - Personal attacks, whether aimed at people on this list
or not, are not allowed. Arguing with someone's ideas or
point of view is no problem.

 - Please try not to exacerbate the problem we have with high
volume. In particular, do not send posts just to carry on
long running jokes. If you are sending a post anyway and you
want to say something funny that's ok. Remember, some folks
pay for their e-mail BY THE MESSAGE.

 - You may print or distribute any items from this list in
any way that will benefit the SCA, provided you give the
author(s) credit, do not sell SCA-Cooks articles
and do not print information or statements out of context. The
exception is that if the author includes a limited use
disclaimer at the front of their message, you must abide by
   the terms of that disclaimer.

 - If your discussion becomes personal, please do it privately.
Remember, the topic here is COOKING AND RELATED ARTS, so
stay on topic. No pleas for your favorite charity, no VIRUS
ATTACK notices, no advertisements (except cooking stuff), no
   humorous OFF TOPIC stuff.

 - All are encouraged to remember there are folks who are not on
this list, so remember to share your thoughts with them as well.

 - If in replying to someone's post you change the overall subject,
remember to change the subject line to match so we can more
   easily follow the discussion.

 - Feel free to carry on discussions and debates on the list. This
is not intended just for bland factual announcements but to
increase communication and understanding among the culinary artists
   in the SCA.

 - Please sign your SCA name to all posts IN THE BODY. Some
mail readers cut off the header automatically, and not all
of us know everyone's mundane name and e-mail address.

 - If you have suggestions for improving this list you may post them
   for discussion.

 - By subscribing to this list you agree to abide by all these terms.
If you see something you can't live with, unsubscribe now.

DIGEST GUIDELINES

 - The digest comes as one long message composed of many
smaller messages. Do not reply to the whole digest.
Instead, split out each post you wish to respond to,
CHANGE THE SUBJECT LINE to something that lets everyone
know what the post is about and send each reply
individually. Yes, this makes it somewhat harder to reply
to the list if you are on the digest. If you reply a lot,
the digest may not be for you.

 - Send your replies to sca-cooks at eden.com, NOT to
   sca-cooks-digest at eden.com.

 - There is no guarantee that you will get one and only one
digest per day. Some days it may be 2 or even 3, some days
none at all. The more traffic, the more digests will be
   generated.

To unsubscribe from the list and subscribe to the Digest, send an
e-mail to majordomo at eden.com with the following lines in the BODY of
the message:

unsubscribe sca-cooks

subscribe sca-cooks-digest

You should receive a message telling you that you are unsubscribed.
Another message saying you are subscribed to the Digest should follow
in the next 24 hours.
