When we were in Germany for our extended honeymoon (we got married when he
was already in the army, and spent 5 years there) we were very surprised when
we were in a local restaurant, and were served a bread basket with a little
crock of fat.  It was rendered pig fat, with the cracklins included.  It was
really delicious on the bread, but totally a new experience for me.
