<SIGH>.
I see it is time to make this explanation again...perhaps it needs to
become an entry in the Adamantius FAQ ; ).

The cognomen Adamantius comes from a number of sources, but primarily as
the cognomen of Origenes Adamantius, one of the great (depending on your
viewpoint, I suppose) heretics of the Later Roman Empire / Early Dark
Ages. Commonly referred to by church scholars as Origen, as in The
Heresy of Origenism, the details of which I won't bore you with here.
Suffice it to say he had some difference of opinion with the pope on a
point of theology. Something about cuskynoles, I think...; )

I'd have to say other influences include the reference to the adamantine
gates of Hell in Milton, not to mention the odd comic book or two.

I'm old enough to remember the Adam Ant cartoons, but I don't really,
since I never had much interest in them. Bullwinkle. Now THERE'S a
cartoon! Anyway, wasn't he Atom Ant? Then, of course, I think there was
a musical "artist" about fifteen years ago by the name of Adam Ant.
Definitely no relation, I assure you. I can sing.

G. Tacitus Adam Ant ius
