My hands are pretty big (Not Michael Jordan big, but bigger than proper 
humans. Three fingers wide is maybe 3 cm. If medieval people were 
somewhat smaller than me (and by and large they were significantly so) I 
would hav thought their hands were too (I don't know of course)
