According to one source I saw, a "palm," c. 18th c., was four inches.

I don't believe three of your fingers could be 3 cm. I just measured mine
and three fingers come to 6 1/2 cm, or about 2 1/2". So figure about 2"x6"
for the individual pieces--each of which (as I read the instructions) has a
3x5 grid superimposed on it. In other words, each piece 2x6 is somehow
divided into 15 rectangles, 3 the narrow way, 5 the wide way.
